When you are running a food business, you have to understand safe food handling. Food is an important asset of a food business. You are not going to run a successful business if you are offering contaminated food.  If you are not careful the food can easily get contaminated by bacteria.

It is important that you take proper food safety precautions. Whether you are handling, storing or displaying food using a hot food display cabinet, you should be careful.  Here are a few food safety tips that every food business should know.

It is important that you handle the food safely. There are certain food safety rules that every food business should follow.

Make sure you wash your hands before you handle the food. Using gloves is also a smart move. If the hands are not clean then they will contaminate the food. Wash your hands before and after handling food.

All the utensils that you use while handling food should be clean. Never use the same utensils for raw meat and other food products because it increases the chances of cross food contamination. So sanitize and clean utensils regularly and never smoke in a room where you are storing or handling food.

The benches, counters, floors and all the other fixtures in food preparation area should be clean as well. Make sure that you dispose of rubbish regularly.

Safe Storage Temperature:

Temperature is a crucial factor in ensuring the safety of the food. Almost all food products are perishable so you need to store them at the right temperature.  Leaving the food at room temperature for too long will spoil it. It offers perfect growing temperature to the bacteria.

The refrigeration appliances offer the perfect storage temperature. You can store food products for weeks and even months in a fridge or a freezer. It will be fresh for use as the germs will not be able to grow at low temperature.

Cleanliness and Hygiene:

Hygiene and cleanliness are crucial for a food business. If the preparation or storage area is not clean, it will contaminate the food. Make sure that you take out expired food. Letting it rot in the fridge will affect the whole food stock.

While storing food you have to take do it properly. Make sure that you put different types of foods on different shelves. The raw meat should be on the bottom shelves and fresh products in the top.

It is never a good idea to ignore spills so if there is a spill on the floor or in the fridge you need to call it immediately. The spill can lead to contamination if you keep ignoring it.

Know the Cooking Temperatures:

Make sure that you cook the food properly without destroying the taste or texture. It is important to serve the cooked food and eat it immediately. If you are not going to eat it then you need to put it in a fridge or freezer.

Small mistakes can cost you a lot when it comes to food safety so make sure that you take food safety seriously.
