I don’t blame you if you think that you are a smart cookie and don’t have any bad habits because most smart people think the same way. Smart people have habits that prevent them from achieving their potential and hamper their productivity and effectiveness. What’s worse is that they don’t realize this.
These bad habits are stopping them from achieving their goals and prevent them from making an impact. Moreover, these bad habits cast negative shadows on not only their professional life but also their personal life. If you have ever met a smart person in your life, you can surely find that they are overconfident. Although, being confident about yourself and having faith in your abilities are good qualities but things can go downhill when you go overboard with it. They are so confident that they are tricked into believing that they will succeed at everything they do. Failure is not an option for them. That is the reason why when they fail, they get a shock and struggle to get out of that shock. Confidence is a good thing, but overconfidence is not. There is a very thin line that separate both and you should be aware of it.
2. Not Asking for Help

When you think you are the ultimate genius and you don’t need anyone, you tend to make the mistake of not asking for help even when you are in desperate need for it. Your ego comes in the way and prevent you from seeking from subordinates. You try to do everything yourself and don’t want to trust anyone. Smart people have a superiority complex which make them believe that they are better than others. With this mindset, they never ask for help even when they are in trouble.
3. Ignoring Problems Instead of Solving Them
Despite being a smart individual, denial can get the better of you. Ignoring the problems that are in front of you instead of solving them can lead to increase in the magnitude of problems. Once you leave a small problem convert into a complex one, it will make life tough for you and you will have a hard time handling it. Try to face challenges head on and solve the problem when it is in its infancy stage. It is easier to resolve the problem early than late. Don’t let fear of failure come in the way of tackling difficult challenge.

Another common characteristic that most smart people share is that they are control freaks. They want to control how they react to certain situation. In fact, that is what matters the most and will determine your success and failure. Unlike others who like to follow in the footsteps of others, they want to lead people and loves to enjoy complete control over everything. Unlike others who stays in the learning mode all the time, smart people think they already know everything and don’t have to learn anything, which, allows them stand where they are and ceases their growth as a professional and a person.
6. Waiting Too Much

One of the hardest things to do is to convince a smart person that they are wrong. They tend to believe that they are always right due to which they hold on to wrong ideas for too long. As a result, they never manage to graduate to newer more innovative ideas and fail to experiment. They want to stick to ideas they have and thinks that those ideas will help them succeed no matter what. In some cases, smart people hold on to wrong ideas for not only years but for decades which results in wastage of some previous years which could have been put to good use if they have let go of those ideas sooner.
7. Expecting Extraordinary Results
Smart people set high expectations of themselves and always set audacious goals. There is nothing wrong in this but when you set such high standards, you will have to work extremely hard to get there. You will have to use your creativity and think out of the box too. That is where most smart people tend to struggle. They think that they can achieve amazing results by applying their own tried and tested formula but unfortunately for them, it does not work anymore.
